What is yoga?
Yoga is the union of the individual consciousness with the Infinite Universal Consciousness. It helps us explore our dimensions, depth, nature, and potential as human beings. Yoga gives us the knowledge and techniques that we can employ to gain wisdom, which is acquired through practice and discipline. Practicing yoga will help strengthen the nervous system, stimulate circulation, stretch and build muscles, and cleanse the tissue. It also provides an increased awareness of the body and its internal processes. Once immersed in a yogic lifestyle, we have the support to curb our toxic habits, and build new positive ones.
How do I know which form of yoga to practice?
All forms of yoga are rooted in the same ancient practices and traditions, or as the yogis say, “All rivers flow into the sea”. Present incarnations of traditional yogic forms can vary according to the lineage of the teachers who brought the teaching to the Western world. There are also a variety of hybridized inventions that mix certain yogic practices with other wellness traditions and/or exercise programs. While these can be therapeutic and effective, they are modern creations, and do not represent yoga in a traditional sense. The best way to find the right practice for you is to sample various classes and experience many styles until you find the one that resonates. You may also find that many of them do.
What is Kundalini Yoga?
Kundalini Yoga is an ancient technology of awareness. The practice utilizes meditation, asanas (postures), pranayama (breathwork), and mantra (chanting) to expand the caliber and capacity of the mind, body, and soul. The Kundalini energy is a reserve at the base of the spine that can be awakened and transferred through the body. The gradual awakening process, stimulated by the practitioner’s own efforts, activates the flow of energy in a natural progression. Raising this energy integrates you more fully with reality and gives you the awareness to act more effectively.
What does Kundalini Yoga do?
The practice of Kundalini Yoga balances the glandular system, strengthens the nervous system and enables us to harness the energy of the mind and the emotions, so we can be in control of ourselves. Kundalini Yoga is designed to give you a hands-on experience of your highest consciousness.
What is the role of a yoga teacher?
Students come to us after a process of self-initiation, that is, they must be the ones to decide to begin this journey. We as teachers are merely conduits of wisdom, we are just a channel. We do everything we can to help students raise their consciousness. We must also acknowledge that choosing a spiritual practice involves long-term, devoted, and intense work. We sometimes have to tell our students things that are difficult to hear, but we do so with a smile. We are the forklifts. When our students need help, we are there. When they need an extra push, we give it. When they come to us with problems, we listen, we empathize, and we offer suggestions for solutions. We hope to empower students, so they find the strength within themselves to overcome their difficulties and flourish.
